Studio Etiquette

Monthly Members,

As a valued member of our pottery studio, we want to ensure that your experience is both enjoyable and productive. To create a positive and harmonious environment for all, we have established the following studio rules for our monthly membership program:

1. Respect the Studio Space

  • Treat the studio and all equipment with care and respect.

  • Clean up after each session by returning tools, materials, and equipment to their designated areas and wiping off tables.

  • Notify the staff immediately if you notice any damage to equipment or if something requires maintenance.

2. Practice Good Etiquette

  • Be mindful of other members working around you. Avoid loud conversations or disruptive behavior that may disturb their concentration.

  • Keep your workspace neat and organized to maximize efficiency and safety.

  • Share the studio space and resources, such as wheels, tools, and tables in a fair and considerate manner.

  • Keep personal items organized and stored in designated areas to avoid clutter and prevent accidents.

  • Please keep your tools and materials on your designated shelf and respect other’s spaces.

3. Use Studio Materials Responsibly

  • Use tools and equipment responsibly and in accordance with instruction. Seek guidance from studio staff if you are unsure about proper usage or technique.

  • Studio tools should be cleaned and returned to their appropriate places.

  • Studio materials, including clay and glazes, are for studio use only. Please provide your own clay and glazes and store them on your respective shelf.

  • Studio shelves marked “Studio Use Only” shall only be accessed by studio employees, not members.

  • Do not adjust, move, or manipulate wheels without staff approval.

  • When cleaning tools or splash pans, use designated “clay” side of sink.

4. Communicate and Collaborate

  • Feel free to engage with fellow members and be open to sharing ideas and knowledge.

  • If you need assistance or have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the studio staff or more experienced members.

  • Constructive criticism and feedback should be provided in a respectful and supportive manner, and only when asked.

  • Studio background music will be played, feel free to bring your own earbuds and make yourself comfortable.

  • Do not touch or handle others' pottery pieces without permission. Each artist's work is personal and should be treated with respect.

5. Attend Scheduled Sessions

  • Make the most of your membership by attending regular studio open hours.

  • If you're unable to attend a scheduled session, provide advance notice to the studio staff to allow others to utilize your spot.

  • Please respect the hours of the studio and leave by the scheduled time.

6. Safety

  • In the case of an emergency, follow studio staff directions.

  • If injury occurs, notify studio staff immediately and follow first aid guidelines.

  • Be aware of the environment and take necessary precautions.

  • Sanding should only be done in the back room over a trash can or reclaim bucket.

7. Guests

  • Guests are welcome to come for a tour with a studio staff member.

  • No guests should accompany a member to a session without prior staff approval.

8. Kiln

  • All pieces ready to be bisqued or glazed should be put on their respective shelving in the back room.

  • The kiln, kiln shelving and kiln furniture shall not be touched by any member.

  • Member’s pieces are to be marked with initials or logo.

  • Studio staff will load and unload each member’s pieces.

  • The kiln will be loaded according to weight and height dimensions. In order to balance the kiln and have even heating, we will not be able to accommodate any special requests regarding spacing.

By adhering to these studio rules and guidelines, we can ensure a vibrant and inclusive community for all monthly membership participants. Your commitment to these principles helps foster a nurturing and creative atmosphere. Thank you for being a part of our studio, and we look forward to your continued artistic journey!
